Free Dish TV Plan 2023

Free Dish Tv Yojana has been approved in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government plans to implement the scheme by 2026, and it will include the construction of technologically advanced studios for broadcasting free Dish TV.

The scheme aims to install free dish TV in 800,000 households and extend its benefits to remote border areas and tribal areas, including Naxalite areas. The government has allocated a budget of ₹2,539 crore for this scheme.

Aimed at improving Doordarshan and Radio, the scheme will provide free access to more than 80% of the population, allowing them to watch channels of their choice at no cost.

Purpose of Free Dish TV Plan

The main objective of the free DTH scheme is to provide free set-top boxes to economically disadvantaged citizens across the country. This will enable availability of DTH services in remote and border areas, ensuring access to current information.

The government aims to install free dish TV in 800,000 households. Additionally, the plan aims to increase AIR FM's geographic transmitter coverage from 59% to 66% and population-wise transmitter coverage from 68% to 80%. Through this scheme, citizens will have access to free Doordarshan channels along with other channels for educational, informational and entertainment purposes.
